BAE Systems and Cranfield University to Boost Engineering Skills through Masters-Level Apprenticeships
From March 2018, Cranfield will be launching an open postgraduate engineering apprenticeship programme enabling many more companies the opportunity to upskill their workforce using the Apprenticeship Levy.
Cranfield University and BAE Systems announced a partnership to boost engineering skills through a postgraduate engineering apprenticeship programme, following the publication of the postgraduate engineer apprenticeship standard.
This method of digital delivery creates flexibility in how and where the apprentices study, and minimises the requirement for the engineers to be away from their workplace for a significant period of time. Professor Rajkumar Roy, Director of Manufacturing at Cranfield University said:
“This innovative programme is a further strengthening of Cranfield’s masters-level apprenticeship offering. Through online delivery, engineers will be to access our study both through live interactive and ‘on-demand’ sessions.
Working in partnership with BAE Systems allows us to tailor our educational programme to meet the needs of engineers and of industry.”
On completion of the programme, which will feature modules such as design-driven innovation, operations management and cost engineering, the graduates will exit into appropriate roles within BAE Systems. Matt Armistead, Early Careers Project Lead for Level 7 Apprenticeships at BAE Systems, added, “We are very excited to be the trailblazer for this new qualification, and are delighted that our graduate engineers are able to partner with such a prestigious institution as Cranfield.
The postgraduate diploma in engineering competence will allow our graduate engineers to apply their learning in a work-based context, with the focus of the assessment very much around competency rather than purely academic ability.”From March 2018, Cranfield will be launching an open postgraduate engineering apprenticeship programme enabling many more companies the opportunity to upskill their workforce using the Apprenticeship Levy.
